Come hear the tale of Skara Brae!

Published on July 24, 2012

When visiting Scotland, a trip to the place which reminds you of The Bard’s Tale I is of highest importance.

So, what is the city map like nowadays?

No, sorry, no Gran Plaz, no temples, and I couldn’t locate Mangar’s Tower either.

But nonetheless, this is a great place to be, and you really should visit the visitor centre here. Nice multimedia shows and many things to explore.

If you don’t have the chance to take the ride, enjoy another hour of Bard’s Tale fun while loading up your favourite Silversword party. You can expect the expansion in about 2-3 months, if things go as expected.

Cheers
Mario

Update 2.1.2 is out!

Published on June 3, 2012

Finally, the problems with the two hellish chests are solved. You should be able to open them now and get your reward.

In addition, the roadwarden should charge you the correct price now. Some of the corrupt elements have been identified and put to jail. Sadly, the stolen money hadn’t been found yet…

Looting some items with a composite name caused trouble, giving you only a “NULL” item. You don’t need “NULL” items to finish the game, and so they are removed now and replaced with real ones.

Thank you all for your great feedback!

Regards
Mario

P.S. I found that the game settings screen still shows 2.11 as version number. Sorry. You will have 2.12 upon updating, no matter what they say.

The new and the old

Published on May 30, 2012

You have fond memories of the old times, when you typed in “CHAOS” at the priest in the ruins of Skara Brae, and were prompted to insert the dungeon disk… good news then: The Bard’s Tale App now includes the 3rd part of the old saga. By playing some hours into this, I must admit that I have to make some adjustments to Silversword 😉 At least some more items will be added soon (Shield Staff, Mithril Bracers etc.). If you want to see more stuff from the old games, please let me know. Silversword is here to make it happen – sharpen your swords and get your bard a drink!

Update 2.1.0 is live!

Published on May 5, 2012

Together with some bug fixes and minor changes to the manual, I have introduced a slightly better way of dealing with chests.

Depending on the skill of your rogue, you will see a certain number of gizmos that turn from green to red and vice versa. The number of gizmos is related to the difficulty level of the current map. With lockpicks you can eliminate those switches one by one.

Now try to touch a switch when it is green. If you don’t succeed in this, the lock will be jammed and you will have to unjam it first before you can make a another attempt. But beware: Unjamming might set off a trap.

Have fun with this new way of dealing with treasure!

Update 2.1.0 submitted to Apple

Published on April 30, 2012

It has been a long time in terms of Silversword Update frequencies, I know. But some bugs had to be fixed and the new chest game had to be tested. Now it is set, and should be available within the next few days. This is not the upcoming expansion, sorry for that. The expansion should be expected around August, because private plans demand their time (wedding and honeymoon), too. And you don’t want me murdered by my soon-to-be wife, do you?

Funding the future

Published on March 26, 2012

It’s begun!

The fundraising campaign for Silversword 2 has just started. During the next 3 months, everybody has the chance to make him-/herself a name within the game. Many small and big rewards are given out to all fans who want to donate to the project.

If you haven’t checked out by now, you can do it here: http://www.startnext.de/en/silversword2

Of course, work on part 1 still continues, the next update will bring great new features!

Kind Regards
Mario

Why I get up so early on weekends

Published on March 25, 2012

It’s 8:30 a.m. A good time to start the day, the sun is shining brightly and I am sitting under a simple skybox. Simple… because you only need one colour for it: blue!

What’s so special about this time is the fact that since tonight, it’s summertime. Meaning that I have “lost” one hour. No big deal either. But when you’re playing “Who wants to be a millionaire?” on your iPad until 2 a.m., you usually want to make use of the sunday and sleep at least 8 hours. You can do the math for yourself now. It IS too early to get up 😉

I told my soon-to-be wife Alicia that it’s crazy: If I had to go to work today, I would be tired and would be in a bad mood. Well – you know the point. It’s not that you have to work, it’s WHY you have to work.

I “have to” work on Silversword, and that is a voluntary job. That is the job I have chosen and a job that I manage for myself alone. My boss would be happy if I showed that amount of dedication during my “main” job. Alas, I think he wouldn’t allow me to work WHEN I want – and on WHAT I want. This is probably the main reason for becoming a self-employed person.

Silversword is a niche product – it won’t get me to self-employment 😉 But nonetheless, it’s so much fun to work on it, and support the growing fan-base, that I can’t put it down. Why should I anyway?

If you’ve read this far, you know what this new Dev Blog is all about. It’s about me and my thoughts – regarding Silversword, it’s successor(s)… and other things related to this. Enjoy if you like 🙂
