In fact, it is only an indicator of the bard's artistic progression. It is raised automatically during levelup, and does not play any important role (yet).

Kind regards

Woot...thx for the info.
Does constant use of a song improve it in any way? Like the spells with casters?

No. Only your Intelligence value will modify the duration.

I am playing the game for the second time, now. I really love it, except for one thing: I just cannot figure out, what some of the Batd songs do? Like what is the Moneykeeper's Melody for? Isn't there a list somewhere? Can someone help me? Thank's a lot!

They are documented in the Compendium, an in-app purchase.

Moneykeeper's Melody, as the name implies, helps you keep your money away from bandits. It's slightly useful around Savage Crossing.

Ballad of Reason is essentially the spell Disbelieve. It's useful against sorcerers, such as the Ancient Heroes in Horon's Sanctum.

The most useful song early in the game is Song of Life, which is free healing. Later you will be using Spirit Chant, which slowly restores Spell Points, a lot, especially after magical damage areas that also suck away Spell Points (e.g. in the Tarasz Passage). IMHO. Spirit Chant alone is worth having a Bard in the party!

For most of the game, your Bard will want to have a Bardsword, which lets him sing unlimited songs (as far as I have seen) without wine or beer. At some point, though, you'll want to switch him to a Singing Sword, if you're lucky enough to find one!

Where do you find the singing sword?

IIRC correctly, it's a random drop later in the game (Annsharbour and later?). There is an arms shop in the expansion that sells them, but that's much further along.

Rejoice when you finally find one! ;)

By the way, another reason to have a Bard in your party is the Horn of Sodar. That and Spirit Chant make a Bard essential, IMHO. The Horn of Sodar is in some ways the most powerful item in the game, hitting unfortunate victims with up to 3000 HP of damage, more than any spell except Wrath of the Dragons, and unlike that spell, it is usable everywhere.
