I need one ruby

This is my second time to get to this point in the game and be short rubies. After exchanging my diamonds for rubies, I have a total of 9 rubies. I've read about grinding in what is called the basic maps because rubies drop everywhere and the odds are best in those maps. I am wondering what is considered basic. I assumed that meant the maps before you reach the mountain ridge. My patience grows thin in those maps because its such sleepy work. Are there any other or new insights about getting a ruby to drop?

According to this discussion, rubies can be found everywhere, but become more common to find in simple areas with fewer items to choose from, as in Road to Castle Cranbourg. Try grinding against the Guardians of the Grove or in the Forgotten Crypt.
