Alchemy spells not working?

Post by Visstar » Wed May 09, 2018 4:13 pm

I was excited to try out the Alchemy spells Fumble and Disruption on a magic resistant foe, and the opportunity presented itself in Watertop against a Shadow Stalker and 35 Prowlers. To my disappointment, neither spell worked. I cast Disruption several times to be sure, but their magic resistance wasn't affected in the slightest. Fumble and Blinding Light are supposed to interfere with opponents' attacks "with a certain chance" -- but unless that chance is 5 or 10%, they didn't seem to work either. I was left to fight them all using nothing but melee weapons, since you cannot add runes to the Stone Sword, Dragonbone Bow, Thief's Dagger, Staff of Storms, or Firestaff. And since becoming a Dragoncaller ruined my warrior's THACO, the Silversword was useless, as well. The only characters doing any significant damage were my monk with runed knuckledusters and my bard with a tuned singing sword.

I FINALLY managed to defeat them, but it took about three days, all spell points of all characters, two Harmonic Gems, two Safetywands (so I had a chance to heal), three Divine Powders (plus about 6-8 uses of Beyond Death, Divine Restoration, or Sodor's Recall), two shock bombs (which didn't work) and most of my supply of garlic for Restore Body.

So my questions are:

1. Do those Alchemy spells work at all?

2. Were werewolves always able to resist Hesitation, or is this new? I'm pretty sure I defeated them using Hesitation last time through.

Thanks goodness these monsters are only found near Watertop!! They are far more dangerous than Maruziel was!
May the Vishanti guide me through this eldritch maze!

Bumping, because I'm curious myself! Are these spells working correctly, and if so, what is the actual effect (as in % change)? Do some enemies have magic immunity altogether, rather than high resistance?

Couple years too late, but I've been curious about this too, having started to dabble in Alchemy. Spore Bomb is an awesome spell, but I really can't tell if Fumble is doing anything at all. I assume that the meta stats that it affects are all hidden from the player.
